What is SculpSure® & How Does It Work?

SculpSure® is a diode laser system that has proven to be a safer, smarter and less invasive way to body sculpt and remove unwanted fat. The Cynosure SculpSure® Laser System is the world’s first FDA-cleared laser treatment for (non-invasive) lipolysis.

Areas that can be treated include:

  • abdomen
  • inner thighs
  • outer thighs
  • under the chin & some areas of the face
  • back and flanks

This safe, non-invasive laser body contouring treatment is designed to effectively eliminate fat cells and stimulate collagen production for a smoother skin appearance. SculpSure’s® wavelength technology increases the temperature of the adipose (fat) cells in order to damage their structural integrity. Minimal absorption in the dermis leaves your skin’s surface (and muscles) unharmed.

With SculpSure® laser fat removal treatments, over a period of a few weeks, the body naturally eliminates these treated, unwanted fat cells. Destroyed fat cells are eliminated naturally through the body’s lymphatic system and do not regenerate.

SculpSure® Laser Procedure: Pre-Treatment

Before the SculpSure® laser fat removal treatment starts, our team of experts will give you a consultation to discuss your particular treatment plan. During a consultation, we highly recommend that you ask any and all questions you possibly have so we can ensure the best possible outcome for you. Our team will consult with you on your:

  • medical history
  • recent surgeries
  • any prior skin treatments you’ve had recently

These aspects need to be discussed to determine if SculpSure® laser treatments are for you.

The SculpSure® laser fat removal process is non-invasive, and no medications are required prior or post-treatment. There are a few actions we recommend taking before receiving laser body sculpting or laser facial contouring treatments:

Do not apply any creams or lotions to the area you’re having treated
Be well hydrated & drink plenty of water
Have a decent meal beforehand

Please be advised that this treatment that is not for everyone. If you are pregnant or if you are lactating it is strongly recommended that you do not have this treatment.

SculpSure will not interfere with your daily routines, though not everyone is alike. As such, you may experience some tenderness in the treated area, or slight redness, but you can carry on with your plans for the day as normal.

SculpSure® Laser Procedure: During Treatment

One SculpSure® treatment is a 25-minute procedure. If there are several treatment areas you’re looking to have treated, then this may require several treatments per appointment.

Once you arrive for treatment you will be comfortably positioned on a chair or bed. Applicators will be placed at the targeted areas with a belt. The first four minutes of treatment, the temperature of the fat cells will increase to the optimum temperature. This temperature will be sustained for about twenty minutes and during this time you will be closely monitored to ensure your comfort level is maintained. Some clients may experience minor discomfort. There may be a sensation of tingling; and for some, minor peaks of warmth followed by cooling. Most clients find these sensations tolerable.

Treatment on one area can only be treated once within the same day. It is recommended that 4 to 6 weeks pass between treatments on the same area.

SculpSure® Laser Procedure: Post-Treatment

After a body contouring treatment some clients say the treated area is tender to the touch. It is widely reported that the feeling is similar to having a great workout. This typically goes away in less than two weeks.
If you are an individual who enjoys working out then you will be able to resume your routines right away. In fact, exercise can help stimulate the metabolic process. Gently massaging the treated area is recommended after treatment because it may help stimulate the lymphatic drainage system which can enhance results.

To date, there are no reports of individuals experiencing increased skin laxity (loose or saggy skin) after treatment.  However, if you are an individual; who has severe laxity in the areas you want treated, the results may not be what you desire. Asking a SculpSure® therapist if this is right for you is highly recommended.

Maintenance body sculpting treatments are done at the discretion of the therapist and the client. Fat cells that are destroyed will not return; however, those that remain may increase in volume. SculpSure® on its own won’t provide results for years to come unless there is a lifestyle change and you remain well-hydrated.

SculpSure® laser fat removal technique does not require any compression hosiery.

SculpSure® Laser Procedure: Results

Maintenance body sculpting treatments are done at the discretion of the therapist and the client. Though fat cells that are destroyed will not return, those that remain may increase in volume. Please do not be discouraged if your SculpSure® treatment does not last for years to come. SculpSure® on its own cannot maintain results when coupled with an inactive lifestyle. Be sure to stay well hydrated and keep an active lifestyle, and you will see SculpSure’s® results far longer!

As SculpSure® does not leave any marks or lumps, this light-based technology provides a natural look and more natural body contour that works with your body.

Every client is different so it is hard to make a claim as to how much fat can be destroyed. However, some studies show that up to 24 percent of fat cells can be destroyed in a treated area. Until you have a consultation, it cannot be determined how many treatments you may require for optimum results. Many clients start to see results as early as six weeks following their first treatment. This is approximately how long it takes for the body to eliminate these destroyed fat cells. Optimal results are seen at about 12 weeks after the final treatment. Post treated areas will look smaller and more contoured.

General FAQ’s:
What is PicoSure Pro?

PicoSure Pro is the first picosecond aesthetic laser platform designed for various cosmetic treatments, including tattoo removal, acne scar treatment, removal of pigmented lesions, and wrinkle reduction. This advanced laser technology delivers extremely short bursts of energy in trillionths of a second to target and break down pigment without damaging surrounding skin, promoting a more youthful and even skin appearance.

Why Choose PicoSure Pro Laser Treatment?

Considering your options for skin rejuvenation is crucial. Traditional treatments like face-lifts, fillers, and injectables often involve significant downtime, risks, and side effects. PicoSure Pro laser treatment offers a non-surgical, less invasive alternative that can effectively address your aesthetic concerns. Consult with our experienced practitioners to see if PicoSure Pro is the right choice for you.

Pigment FAQ’s:
What causes unwanted pigment?

Melanin is responsible for our skin color. Pigmented lesions, such as sunspots, age spots, and brown patches, occur when melanin is concentrated in specific areas of the skin. Sun exposure is a common cause, though some people may have pigmented lesions from birth or due to hormonal changes.

What types of pigmented lesions can PicoSure Pro remove?

PicoSure Pro effectively treats a variety of unwanted pigments, including age spots, freckles, and brown patches. During a consultation, your practitioner will develop a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve clearer, pigment-free skin.

How many treatment sessions will it take?

Most pigmented lesions can be significantly improved with just a few treatments. However, larger, darker, and deeper lesions may require additional sessions. Your practitioner will discuss your specific treatment plan and expectations during your consultation.

What does the treatment feel like?

Patients generally find PicoSure Pro treatments tolerable and often do not need numbing agents. The laser's pulses are often described as feeling like a quick snap from a thin rubber band.

What type of post-treatment care is necessary?

After treatment, the area may be slightly tender. It’s important to keep the area clean and avoid irritation. Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

Scar Treatment FAQ’s:
How does laser scar treatment work?

PicoSure Pro laser scar treatment uses ultra-short pulses of light to penetrate deeply into the skin’s layers, targeting the underlying structure. The body's natural healing process then removes the older, damaged tissue and replaces it with new collagen and elastin, leading to healthier, smoother skin.

What types of scars can be treated?

PicoSure Pro is FDA-cleared and Health Canada approved for treating acne scars on any part of the body, including the face.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

PicoSure Pro laser scar treatment is suitable for many skin types, from light to darker tones. A consultation with one of our practitioner’s can determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.

How long does it take?

Treatment sessions can be as brief as 15 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during PicoSure Pro scar treatments. Your practitioner will discuss options to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

How many treatments will I need?

Noticeable improvements in acne scars can begin after two treatments, with optimal results typically seen after a series of three to five sessions.

How quickly will I recover?

Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately after the treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects include temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site. Treated pigmentation may whiten initially, darken over the next 24 hours, and then gradually fade.

Wrinkle Treatment FAQ’s:
How does it work?

PicoSure Pro targets the three layers of skin affected by aging: surface pigment, mid-dermal wrinkles, and deeper dermal laxity. The body’s natural healing process removes damaged tissue and regenerates it with fresh collagen and elastin, essential for youthful-looking skin.

Am I a good candidate for this procedure?

If you have fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, mouth, or other areas of your body such as the face, hands, and arms, you may be a good candidate for PicoSure Pro treatments.

How long does it take?

Sessions can be completed in as little as 15 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

Your provider will offer options to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Treatment sensations vary, so it’s best to discuss your concerns with your provider.

How many treatments will I need?

A series of three to four treatments is usually recommended. Treatment intervals range from two to four weeks, but may extend up to eight weeks for darker skin types. Each patient’s needs will be assessed before starting treatment.

How quickly will I recover?

Side effects like temporary redness and swelling usually resolve within an hour but can occasionally last up to 24 hours.

Are there any side effects?

Potential side effects include temporary pigmentation changes, mild redness, swelling, and rare risks of scarring or infection. Following your practitioner's aftercare instructions will help minimize these risks.

General FAQ’s:
How does PicoSure Pro laser tattoo removal work?

PicoSure Pro laser energy targets the tattoo ink, breaking it down into tiny particles. These particles are then naturally eliminated by the body, resulting in the gradual fading of the tattoo.

What does laser tattoo removal feel like?

The sensation of PicoSure Pro laser tattoo removal is often likened to the feeling of getting a tattoo, though the process is much quicker. Your practitioner will discuss comfort options tailored to your needs.

How many treatments will tattoo removal require?

The number of treatments needed for tattoo removal varies based on factors such as ink type, tattoo size, location on the body, the laser used, and your lifestyle habits. During your consultation, a practitioner will assess your tattoo and create a customized treatment plan to achieve optimal results.

How often will I need treatments?

Typically, it takes 4-8 weeks for the body to process and absorb the ink particles after each session. However, individual responses can vary. Adhering to the recommended post-treatment care can enhance results and minimize any potential side effects.

How will my skin look after the laser treatment?

Immediately following treatment, you may notice slight whitening or "frosting" of the skin, which will subside quickly. Mild swelling and redness are also common. Your practitioner will provide guidance on how to keep the treated area moisturized.

My tattoo was treated with a laser in the past and didn’t clear, why would I try again now?

Before the advent of PicoSure Pro, Q-Switched lasers were the standard for tattoo removal, using thermal energy to break down ink particles. PicoSure Pro uses ultra-short pulses to shatter ink into minuscule, dust-like particles, which are more easily absorbed and eliminated by the body. This technology has shown great success in removing stubborn blue and green inks, as well as previously treated tattoos that were difficult to clear.

Can I lighten the tattoo to have another one put on top?

Yes, tattoos can be lightened in preparation for a cover-up. Your practitioner may suggest waiting six weeks between your final treatment and getting your new tattoo.

How much does tattoo removal cost?

The cost of PicoSure Pro laser tattoo removal depends on various factors, including the size of the tattoo and the number of sessions required. Since tattoo removal is considered an elective cosmetic procedure, it is not covered by insurance. After your consultation, your practitioner will provide an estimate for the treatment series.
